The release of new iPod models has been rapid and continuous, each one seemingly an improvement from the last. However, the U2 special edition iPod caught my attention immediately. As a fan of the band, the engraved signatures of the members on the back panel made it all the more appealing.
Additionally, its black front panel and bright red click wheel make it easily distinguishable from other models that are typically white or black.
Despite its aesthetic appeal, the U2 iPod offers more than just looks. While its storage capacity of 20 gigabytes may seem small compared to newer models, it still holds a considerable number of songs. I have owned the U2 iPod for over a year and have yet to fill it completely.
Similar to other iPods of its generation, the U2 iPod offers user-friendly features and superior sound quality, making it easy to navigate and enjoy all of your favorite songs.
One downside is its battery life, which is supposed to last for 12 hours of continuous song playback, but in my experience, lasts only between 4 to 9 hours depending on file size and playback options. However, the lock button on the top of the iPod can help conserve battery life when not in use. Additionally, it is prone to scratches, which can be prevented by purchasing a protective case.
Although more expensive compared to other models with newer features, the U2 iPod still has everything you need in an mp3 player, except for video playback. Ultimately, the decision to purchase it may come down to whether you are enough of a U2 fan to splurge on it, or if you simply desire a standout and unique looking iPod.
